Children Impacted by Parent’s Cancer Month (CIBPCM) is observed annually in January. CIBPCM was founded by Kesem in 2018 to raise awareness of the more than five million children, or one in 15, facing a parent or guardian’s cancer in the United States.
According to their website, Kesem “aspires to create a world where every child who has or has lost a parent to cancer is never alone. We support children through and beyond their parent’s cancer with free, fun-filled creative programs and a lasting community. We pay special attention to this community because while there are many avenues of support for people with cancer, their children do not often receive the same level of support to address their unique needs.”
For families who must deal with loss after a cancer diagnosis, Look for the Pink Ribbons by Joyce McCullough provides an opportunity for parents to discuss with their little ones the loss of a loved one in a simple and easy-to-understand format.
Leona the Lion is well-loved among the animals of the jungle and is easy to recognize by the unique ruff of pink fur she has that is different than the others. But when Leona begins to change, will her friends and cubs be able to recognize her? And even more importantly, will they be able to handle the changes that are to come?
