Destination Hope: A Travel Companion When Life Falls Apart offers camaraderie and a beacon of hope for women who feel alone in loss, struggle, or change of circumstance. This book is not a self-help book filed with platitudes from people who think they have life figured out. Instead, Marilyn Nutter and April White link arms with the audience and encourage their readers through stories of their own hardships in widowhood and chronic illness. Readers are encouraged to see loss and hardship as part of life’s journey and are constantly reminded to turn their gaze upwards, to the Purveyor of Hope. Within the pages of Destination Hope comes a sisterhood, a bond, that can be formed only through the mutual understanding of loss and the need to find hope among hardships.

Destination Hope is arranged into six chapters called Milepost Markers, which address various losses, disappointments, or obstacles. Each entry concludes with a Rest Area for reflection and journaling. A Postcard with a quotation related to the topic sends readers off with an encouraging word, as they travel on towards their Destination Hope.

Marilyn Nutter and April White take you on a journey to find hope when your life is rocked by an unexpected event: loss of a spouse, illness, wayward children, loss of a child, and other disappointments. I love how these two authors share from their own life experiences, how they found hope in the midst of difficult, life-changing circumstances. About

Marilyn Nutter loves finding treasures in unexpected places: gratitude in mulch, conversations with grandchildren, and secrets in an old trunk. Most of all she has found the treasure of hope in loss. Unexpectedly widowed after forty-two years of marriage, Lamentations 3:22-23 has been a brilliant treasure in her new season. After a career as a speech-language pathologist, Marilyn pursued writing and is the author of three devotional books and a contributor to print, on-line publications, and compilations.

April White is an off-road 4x4 Jeep shotgun wife, cheerleader to two teenagers, and a pharmacist. Until five years ago, the only thing missing from April’s idyllic life was a white picket fence and a deer-proof garden. However, in 2015, a rare illness, Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis, threatened to derail April’s sense of worth, security, and identity. As a chronic illness warrior, April draws strength daily with Jesus, coffee, and afternoon naps. While a rare illness hijacked her body, she refuses it to steal her hope. God is using April’s chronic battle as a platform to write and speak of God’s chronic presence.
