AUTHOR’S POEM AND CLAY FIGURINES BECOME A HEARTFELT CHILDREN’S STORY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: A few days after Christmas and ten years ago, Ronni Scott spent her devotional time reading Matthew 1 and Luke 2 and wished for more information about Joseph and Mary’s journey to Bethlehem. She desired more intimate details of the Christmas story and prayerfully asked God questions and was struck with A Donkey's Little Taleinspiration. At the end of three hours she wrote a poem etched with pencil in a spiral notebook that would become the manuscript for A Donkey’s Little Tale (Ambassador International; October 2014; $17.99, hardcover). Now ten years after that December morning Ronni is sharing her prized story with the world.
As she studied, Scott realized there was another figure that accompanied Mary and Joseph on their journey — a donkey! “The child in me took over,” recounts Scott. “I began to imagine what that donkey saw, felt and heard.” A Donkey’s Little Tale begins with Mary and Joseph’s difficult trek to Bethlehem, chronicling their stay at the stable and ending with the glorious arrival of baby Jesus.
In addition to writing A Donkey’s Little Tale, Scott also played an integral part in the illustrations. Using her beloved Georgia Lizella clay, Scott sculpted each scene of the book. The sculptures were then translated into sketches and illustrations by Brittany Huskey.  Scott is still working through a 300 pound supply of clay, mostly crafting pieces for family and friends.
About the Author: R. MITCHELL SCOTT, Ronni, is an Air Force veteran and former school and art teacher. She and her husband have three grown children and three grandchildren. She loves to bake and has mastered the art of fudgemaking, assuring her popularity during the holidays. Ronni graduated with honors at both Columbus State University, Georgia and Asbury Theological Seminary, Florida, earning a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in Art, and a Master of Biblical Studies respectively. Ronni loves getting her hands dirty in Georgia’s Lizella Clay.

Author Draws Inspriation from a Her Sons

For immediate release: October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year and 17 percent of American students report being bullied at least two times a month according to dosomething.org. Author Laura Taylor hopes her new children’s book, EE Otter and the Bullfrog Bullies (Ambassador International; October 2014; $6.99, paperback) will give kids tools to help them put a stop to bullying the Biblical way.

E.E. OtterStudies from the National Association of School Psychologists show that one in four teachers don’t think bullying is wrong and only intervene 4 percent of the time. “Bullying is a heart issue and so many of the programs that are implemented deal with punitive measures that address the behaviors and don’t address the issues of heart,” says Taylor, a teacher herself. “And while punitive measures need to be in place as a consequence to bullying someone, we need to understand that God’s desire is to change hearts with His love and power.

EE Otter and the Bullfrog Bullies follows a band of loveable animals as they encounter relevant issues that many kids face at school today. When a group of scary bullfrogs threatens them for using the basketball court EE and his pals try to fight back. EE’s grandfather uses the situation as an opportunity to explain how the Bible says we should treat our enemies. He points to Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, citing Scripture as a powerful source of guidance. Using the wise advice, EE is able to show love to the bullies, relying on God’s Word and prayer to help him through a difficult situation.

About the Author: Laura Taylor resides in rural South Carolina. She holds a B.S. degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Houghton College and teaches at Wardlaw Academy. She and her husband are the parents of five amazing and busy boys! They operate a small martial arts school where their passion is ministering the transforming love of Jesus Christ through the medium of martial arts.

The Manger MouseChildren’s Book Shares Tale of a Timid Mouse’s Decision to Serve God

For immediate release: A meek and lowly stable mouse plays an integral part in the Christmas story in Sarah Martin Byrd’s new children’s book, The Manger Mouse. (Ambassador International; August 2013; $16.99, hardcover) This charming story follows Matty the Mouse as he helps prepare the manger for Jesus’ arrival. Working to exhaustion, the tiny mouse takes on the important job of carrying bits of straw to the feeding trough that will soon hold the King of Kings. But as Matty discovers, God’s plan for him doesn’t stop there.

Matty is the only animal in the stable suitable for the task of helping to keep Jesus warm. None of the other animals, including Doris the Donkey, Molly the Cow or Randy the Rabbit, were small enough to slip through the crack at the bottom of the trough. God made Matty the perfect size for this task, showing that God can use anyone who is willing to serve. “I hope The Manger Mouse is welcomed into many homes this holiday season,” says Sarah. “It’s a unique perspective of the greatest story of all time—Christ’s birth.”

Sarah teamed up with her childhood friend on the project, illustrator Debbie Wall. Sarah and Debbie reconnected through their love of reading and children’s books. Originally written for Sarah’s granddaughter Emma as a Christmas gift, The Manger Mouse is their first collaboration.

About the Author: Sarah Martin Byrd is a graduate of the Institute of Children’s Literature. She is a published novelist, newspaper columnist and blogger. Sarah loves sharing her life story with children of all ages.

About the Illustrator: Debbie Wall, a member of the Pastel Society of Virginia, is a native of North Carolina and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
