For immediate release: One of Europe’s fastest growing food destinations is getting fresh attention in the pages of a new Irish cookbook from author Margaret Johnson. More than 70 authentic recipes fill the beautiful pages of Flavors of Ireland: Celebrating Grand Places and Glorious Food (Ambassador International; February 2011; $19.99). It’s Johnson’s tenth cookbook overall and eighth focusing on Irish cuisine.

The book is part recipe collection, part travel guide and part history lesson. “Flavors of Ireland offers a unique look into the ingredients that shape the country’s cooking,” says Johnson, who has written hundreds of food and travel pieces for magazines around the world. “Ireland has a distinctive food culture thanks to its geography, climate and rich history.” Johnson will be leading two Flavors of Ireland tours to the Emerald Isle, one in May and a second trip in October.

Several of the country’s top chefs and notable residents contributed recipes for Flavors of Ireland. Potato-Apple-Butter Bake from the curator of the Cork Butter Museum and Caramelized Onion and Blue Cheese Tart from the chef at Dublin’s Ely Wine Bar are two of the highlights. Chef Noel McMeel, named best chef in Ulster in 2011, contributed the foreword to the book.

Johnson is a frequent contributor to Tribune Media Services and has served as travel editor for House Magazine. She’s shared her love of food and drink at Irish cultural events, food festivals and even on cruise ships.
